Sounding off on US-Russian Summit at Helsinki
- Senator John McCain: USA-Russian Summit at Helsinki “tragic mistake” (We know this one can't help himself).
- Speaker of US House of Representatives Paul Ryan: The US President “must appreciate that Russia is not our ally.… There is no moral equivalence between the United States and Russia, which remains hostile to our most basic values and ideals” (Ideals, Values of violence and endless war!).
- Ryan continues: “The
United States must be focused on holding Russia accountable and putting an end
to its vile attacks on democracy” (US officials wouldn’t know “democracy” if it
hit them in the face; so they cannot credibly presume to preach or teach or export what they
neither practice nor allow in their own country, or permit in other countries
they occupy or invade!)
- Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Bob Corker: The two presidents’ Helsinki press conference was “not a good moment” (A view through jaundiced eyes).
- Senate Armed Services Committee member US Senator Lindsey Graham: the US president “missed opportunity … to firmly hold Russia accountable for 2016 meddling and deliver a strong warning regarding future elections” (The US harmed its elections processes with a long broken and corrupt system—not to mention the fielding of unqualified candidates—that public officials are too weak, too lazy, and too beholden to narrow interests to fix).

HY NOT allies! What mainly politicians and pundits with a
microphone refuse to see is that they are the problem, often hysterically so! These
minions with mics prefer the easier course—blame, complain, ridicule, name
call. And in taking this approach they show themselves up not only as petty and
lazy but as regressive and obstructionist.
Americans are America’s problem. And until they get off
their duffs and daises, change their attitudes and approach, there never will
be lasting solutions to either the USA’s problems or world problems.
If a US president has weaknesses, fine—who doesn’t! — proffer
an argument on substantive grounds, present the case, don’t ridicule and seek
to embarrass; and, off mic, help to correct the problems for the sake of the US
and for improved relations across nations.

he working stages of bettering governance and improving
global relations require no pageantry or public display.
When public officials internalize this; when they begin to
take seriously the duties of office instead of longevity or entrenchment in
office, instead of pocketing lobbyist kickbacks, and scoring points for or
against whatever is “trending”—then America and the world will be a whole lot
better off.
WHY NOT allies: the United States of America and the Russian
Federation?

DW news item the day Presidents Putin and Trump met in Helsinki:
“Top Republicans rejected the president's ‘moral equivalency’ with regards to
Russian meddling in the US 2016 election. House Speaker Paul Ryan reminded
Trump that Russia was ‘no ally’ of the US.” https://www.dw.com/en/us-republicans-condemn-donald-trumps-helsinki-remarks/a-44701299
