Fiddlers careless of America’s burning: Conservative Tree House dot com:
Referencing accuser Christine Ford-Blasey “After carefully deleting her social
media profile … carefully selecting left-wing attorney Debra Katz … carefully
scripting some dubious and sketchy supportive material including a lie-detector
test and vague notes from a 2012 couples-therapy session, the 51-year-old
academic psychologist steps forward.… The timing is transparent…, the accusation
is transparent…, the motive is transparent….”
- Fiddlers careless of America’s burning: Virginia Hume at Weekly Standard: “The (Friends of Brett Kavanaugh) letter was conceived and drafted by friends of Brett’s, and it was drafted after allegations came out on Thursday. I learned about the letter from a friend and fellow signatory. Others learned about it the same way. Those surprised at the speed with which it came together should see it as yet another testament to Brett’s excellent reputation.”

- Fiddlers careless of America’s burning: John McCormack at Weekly Standard: “On Sunday, a spokesman for Senate Judiciary Committee chairman Chuck Grassley said the (previously scheduled) Thursday vote has not been delayed.”
- Fiddlers careless of America’s burning: Maine Senator Susan Collins and Alaska Senator Lisa Murkowski are viewed as critical votes in the Judge Kavanaugh confirmation to the U.S. Supreme Court. So—in a country plagued with poor human relations, homelessness, poverty, underemployment, poor educational and electoral systems—a bunch of people got together and hatched up a “bribery” scheme (or “attempted bribery”) scheme that reportedly “generated more than $1 million” pledge money to effectively buy a candidate to oppose Sen. Collins in 2020 if she cast her vote in favor of the Kavanaugh confirmation.

e can and should do better
Senator Benjamin Sasse to Real Clear Politics
For more than thirty years U.S. Senate confirmation hearings have not
worked, Senator Sasse told Real Clear Politics; …and the “hysteria” surrounding
the U.S. Supreme Court confirmation hearings stems from “a fundamental
misunderstanding of the role of the Supreme Court in American life…. Our
political commentary talks about the Supreme Court” justices as if they are “people
wearing red and blue jerseys. That’s a really dangerous thing.”
“It is predictable.” Every confirmation hearing “is going to be an
overblown politicized circus … because we have accepted a new theory about how
our three branches of government should work, and in particular, the judiciary.”

ut “What Supreme Court confirmation hearings should be is
an opportunity to go back and do ‘Schoolhouse Rock’ civics for our kids
“We should be talking about how a bill becomes a law, what the job of article two is, and what the job of article three is.”
Instead, over many years, the 435-member Congress of the United States
has ceded “most of its power to executive-branch agencies ….” They have done
this “because it’s a convenient way for legislators to … avoid taking
responsibility for controversial and often unpopular decisions.”

ncumbency tops Service to Nation
“If people want to get reelected over and over again, and that’s your
highest goal; if your biggest long-term thought around here is about your own
incumbency, then actually giving away your power is a pretty good strategy.
“It’s not a very good life but it’s a pretty good strategy for
incumbency.”
