his daughter of a Chillicothe, Ohio, iron foundry worker and a maid intuitively
knew when she was four years old that she would become a professional singer.
During those very early years she sang in church choirs and performed
for the family, imitating her great idols.
Around the age of 16, she “auditioned and won a spot with (jazz tenor
and alto saxophonist) Rusty Bryant’s Carolyn Club Big Band.” She toured with
the band “throughout Canada and the Midwest,” and “made her first recording
under Dot Records.”
And from then on—through more than five decades — “song stylist” Nancy
Sue Wilson sang in studios and clubs and on stages all over the world. She “recorded
more than 70 albums and won three Grammys.
Some have complimented her “the consummate actress”; others described
her as “the complete entertainer.”
